"Good luck Drifter". These were the last words spoken to him, barely distinguishable through the background noise of deep space and the oppressive roar of his warp thrusters. It may have been 4 jumps since he received those words, but with every shot his shields deflected, every missile barely dodged, those words only grew more and more prominent. Now, a mere 4km from his target, they were all he could think of.

2km ago, the enemy base didn't even register on his scanners. 1km ago only, a faint heat signature. Now? 2 beacons, 6 emplacements and 8 fighters, armed to the teeth and ready to stop at nothing. Heart racing, the Drifter approached. "5 Torpedoes, 12 Fragmentation rounds" he muttered repeatedly, eyeing the ammo counters on his HUD. "2 Torpedos for the first beacon, 1 for the second, 2 for the heavy fi.."

PING... PING... PING...

The sound startled the Drifter, the beacons had spotted him, he glanced again at his scanner, only to see a flurry of enemy fighters closing in. He slammed the throttle banking left between two asteroid fields, 2 heavy fighters just in view. In one fluid motion he, cut thrusters and yanked his stick right, whole body tense as his ship rapidly spun round. The heavy fighters would only occupy his crosshairs for a split second... this would be more than enough. A Torpedo sprang from the base of his hull, followed by a barrage of energy bolts. BOOM, his hull rattled and his shield warning began to flair. One heavy fighter had succumbed to his torpedoes, but the other had managed to release a homing missile before peeling off and disappearing into the asteroid field. Filled with nervous rage, the Drifter pursued.

CLAP, the last remaining heavy fighter burst into flames. "4 Torpedoes, 11 Fragmentation rounds". The Drifter swung round, full throttle towards the two beacons. HISS, HISS... HISS, HISS, a gun emplacement had found a lock, his shields still held at 40%. The Drifter weaved, dodging the remaining shots in flight. A beacon was now in view. He unleashed another barrage of energy bolts, dropping the beacons shield within seconds, 2 Torpedoes would finish the job...

BOOM, a second missile, launched from a stray fighter, violently shook the ship, his thrusters immediately stalled, sending him hurtling towards the beacon. Shields down, with several gun emplacements eating away at his hull, there was little else the Drifter could do.

"Good luck Drifter"...Did they know, this fight was doomed from the start?

Developer's Note:

The movement in this game is quite unconventional, closer to a top-down racing game than a twin stick shooter. It may take some time to get used to :). Using a controller is recommended.

PS: East is to the right side of the screen.
